Hotel Room Seekers Must Choose Rooms Wisely

Hospitality looks different than prior to the pandemic. Guests expect hotels to adapt.

The experience that hotel guests have has changed in myriad ways since the onset of the pandemic more than two years ago. Hoteliers are now competing in completely different ways, and they continue to try and woo people who might otherwise choose other accommodations. In what ways should the modern traveler approach the hotel of their choice, given new concerns brought on by the pandemic and changes in stated consumer interest?

Research activities in and around your hotel

No longer are hotel guests looking to check into their hotels and saunter around the city looking for things to do. In an attempt to more robustly compete with their peers in the hospitality industry, they are providing guests with activities even inside the hotel structure itself. Younger travelers find themselves desiring a hotel experience that includes a litany of chances to create lasting memories, a clear departure from their counterparts of old. Technology makes finding and attending those events as easy as ever.

Consider co-working spaces

For those traveling on business or simply looking to get out and meet people in the city of their choice, many hotels have now repurposed some of their real estate to accommodate people who may be working on laptops or other technology. The move is in response to changing trends in how travelers engage with hotels — the computer labs and business centers have seen dwindling popularity in many cases.

Get used to technology being a larger part of your stay

Hotels are trying to better serve their guests in a litany of ways, including the easing of the check-in process and acknowledgment of both major and minor room issues.

There’s no reason that you cannot get used to more efficient and hands-free ways to operate, but you may notice that you lose something of the experience you’re used to given past experiences. Try to embrace what may well become a new normal and the ramifications of doing so.

Sustainability concerns are key

Consumers in the hospitality space and otherwise are more aware of business initiatives around sustainability than perhaps any other generation. Since many young buyers appreciate any movement aiding they see as a worthy and noble cause, those in the hospitality industry should better position themselves to stand out from their peers where sustainability is concerned.

As you settle into the place you’re staying, consider the ways in which the company is choosing to try and better preserve resources. That could be anything from being more conscientious about water usage to tweaking how many new towels you request of the housewarming staff.
